  7. The ScanWorX API is a developer's toolkit to integrate advanced Intelligent
  8. Character Recognition (ICR) into an application. ScanWorX API is designed to
  9. take advantage of heterogeneous computing environments and the international
  10. marketplace. XIS' ICR can read virtually any typeface. Format definitions such
  11. as tabs, indents, character style, and line spacing are identified and inserted
  12. automatically. XIS' ICR engine actually learns from the document itself. After
  13. first identifying the easy or clear characters, the system applies what it
  14. learned, uses an extensive lexicon and build on its knowledge until it can
  15. correctly identify virtually all characters in a document. Ten different
  16. lexicons allow ScanWorX API to correctly identify words in these languages:
  17. English, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Norwegian, Spanish,
  18. and Swedish. ScanWorX API has been designed to run on all UNIX and personal
  19. computer platforms, including Sun SPARC and IBM RS/6000. Written in C, it is
  20. portable and provides easy access to its extensive functionality.
